I owned both a MG Midget and a Geo Metro. Let's see: MG Midget: New clutch(actually some graphite piece, but as long as you're in there, might as well change all the parts) every 10 to
15 thousand miles, dual carbs needed tuning every 5 thousand miles, broken spring leaf, new real window for the top because it faded so quickly, 2 stolen radios (can't blame MG). I actually loved the car at the time and can't regret it but looking back it was a nightmare to own for the 3 years.

Geo Metro: 5 years, 110k miles, A/C compressor replaced under warrantte (it did take 3 tries and 3 months during a Houston summer but it got done).
A bunch of oil changes and tires. the $125 oxygen sensor upset me but basically it was a little workhorse of a car. Took a licking and kept on ticking.

The Metro by SUZUKI is a well engineered $8k car with an incredibly efficient engine. I had a friend who sold machine parts to a factory building metro engines and he said that the mechanical specifications on Suzuki parts are tighter than most.

I think the Savage is much like my old Metro. Does everything that is asked of it within the bounds of its design. A real value for it's price. And it and he Metro, they both gets scary at 70mph.
